Just a few kilometres to the south of Vale Lourenço lies the hamlet of Besteiros de Cima, Alentejo which is stones throw from the border with Spain. Over dinner with Ze & Rosa they told us they were selling the two quaint Alentejan houses nestled next to each other in a spot surrounded by olives, eucalyptus and pine. Rosa was reluctant. Her mind said sell, her heart suggested a price high enough to prevent it because it is such a lovely peaceful place that time has forgotten. Yet the price was right for Sarah Lawson from Yorkshire.
Eventually the UK's Channel 4 - A Place In The Sun TV programme caught up with this north east corner of Alentejo and Sarah fell in love with the place. See the programme to get a feel for the São Mamede Natural Park and hear what they say about the region.
