Castelo de Vide is a most attractive small spa town which sits high above the surrounding olive groves at the Northern tip of the Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede. Within its 14th century castle walls lies the 17th century Capela de Nossa Senhora da Alegria which contains fine tiles of the same period.

In the lovely old part of the town located in one of the steep narrow lanes adorned with flowers is an ancient synagogue dating from the 13th century.

At the Jewish quarter the streets meet at the towns fountain, Fonte da Vila, the oldest one in the area thought to be from the 16th century. The water from the towns many fountains is reputed to have healing powers and is among the best in the country. In the centre of the town in the square stands the very impressive church of Santa Maria da Devesa.
