Holiday cottage Portugal in Alentejo

The website is very good but I can see that it is not possible to use words to describe the feeling you get by actually being here.... A quote from a guest.

A view of the lower part of Vale Lourenço from the rock above the Quinta

Vale Lourenço south of the peak of the Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede

The Sawday guide says: A house of surprises. Low and whitewashed, clinging by its toes to the hillside, it opens up to reveal vast sunny spaces with breathtaking views over the gentle slopes of the São Lourenço valley...

View from the outside dining area

The valley viewed from the terrace

The deceptively small entrance at the top leads down to the main part of the house

The small entrance to the house which extends below

The picture shows the entrance to the cottage yet the house extends below with views down to the mountain stream. This was originally two country cottages owned by brothers who milled wheat with a water mill (azenha) powered with water supplied by a man made water channel called a levada. This is typical of how life used to be in these hills of Portugal. The main part of the cottage occupies the gap between the two cottages and the terrace below them which once contained the levada.

This is a secluded self-contained holiday home in Portugal. A rural country cottage in a secret place in Portugal's natural Alentejo region.
