From the village of Monte Carvalho the path takes the road and then lane east as if heading towards the peak or São Mamede. This takes you past the foot of the fascinating V shaped gorge cut through a ridge of granite along the hill side.

The path ascends taking you anti-clockwise around a hill, Cabeca Gorda, with its panoramic view, then up and along the higher plain amongst ancient chestnut trees.

Zig zag down through a steep granite landscape studded with cork oak with views down the vale.
