From the village of Monte Carvalho the path takes the road and then a lane to the east as if heading towards the peak of São
Mamede. This takes you past the foot of the fascinating V shaped gorge cut through a ridge of granite along the hill side.
The path ascends taking you anti-clockwise around a hill, Cabeca Gorda, with its panoramic view, then up and along the higher plain
amongst ancient chestnut trees.
Zig zag down through a steep granite landscape studded with cork oak with views down the vale.
